Responsibilities
Information security is a key prerequisite for reliable teaching, research, and administrative operations at LMU. It protects information, IT systems, and digital services from loss, misuse, and failure. The unit Information Security (Stabsstelle Informationssicherheit) is responsible for this task, bringing together the strategic, conceptual, and coordinating functions. Our goal is to identify risks early, support appropriate protective measures, and firmly anchor information security in research, teaching, studies, and administration over the long term. The Chief Information Security Officer is responsible for implementing these goals, driving information security forward university-wide and serving as the central point of contact for strategic questions.
The unit Information Security also provides support through consulting, awareness initiatives, and training — for example, for IT and digitalization projects, in assessing information security risks, in the secure handling of information and systems, and in responding to information security incidents. Beyond these support services, we develop binding requirements for information security at LMU, including guidelines, policies, and standards. In this way, we combine consulting and support with clear rules, so that information security at LMU is implemented in a structured, transparent, and reliable manner.
